Welcome to Marford & Gresford Velo Club (M&G for short) we are a friendly, social cycling club formed in 2010.

 

Basing our rides from our main sponsor, Alf Jones Cycles (Alf's) in Gresford, close to Wrexham, we try to cater for all levels of recreational cyclists from short social rides of around 25 miles to rides for the more competent cyclist of anything between 60-80 miles dependent on elevation.

 

Boasting a membership currently of about 150 with our own private Facebook groups, we also maintain a public Facebook page which can be joined. A management committee was formed in 2015 to ensure that the club is run correctly for the benefit of all our members and it has already organised a number of successful social events.

 

The club arranges official rides on Sunday mornings throughout the year; times vary to suit weather and light conditions, generally 9:00 or 09.30 for Groups 2-4, 8:30am for longer Group 5 rides.  Details of our club rides are published on our club Facebook pages which are accessible to paid up full MGVC members

Weather permitting, we continue to offer club rides on Sundays throughout the colder months, organising medium length outings along with a longer faster ride. All of our rides are organised on a 'No drop' basis, no one is left behind.

We welcome new and prospective members to try out group riding with us, but subject to participation in an induction session

We normally expect that if you enjoy the club ride experience on a couple of occasions you would join formally before continuing to ride with us.

We have a number of regular routes but we are always on the look out to add to those and a list can be found on the rides page. Of course, as with all serious cyclists we do ensure that there is a coffee and cake stop en-route. (during Winter we may also instigate shorter 'non-stop' rides so riders don't get cold... coffees back at Alfs on weekdays and Saturdays.

In the summer, evening rides take place on Wednesdays at 6pm from Alfs these are usually 25-30 miles without a stop.

In addition to these, gaining popularity are 'Social' Saturday and mid week rides which are usually arranged on an ad-hoc basis through our Facebook group page.
